Màre~ (Latin Or.) the sea
The setting for our Màre rings is one that was originally hand carved from wax, so we could feel the form; how it moved, how it felt on, and how it would marry with the stone. Like so much of what we do, it's shape is meant to suggest a contemporary antiquity, and a piece that is new, yet feels like it's already spent a lifetime with you.
This particular one features a deep wine colored 6.07ct rhodolite garnet cabochon from Tanzania, set in warm 18k Royal gold. The sandblasted finish leaves it feeling somewhere between the modern and the medieval. However, this garnet has a greater story to tell~ it comes from Moyo Gems, a small collaborative of female artisanal gem miners in East Africa empowering the women to work safely, mine better, improve financial security, and create stable, equitable markets for fair trade. It also, proudly, assures complete traceability. This particular gem was mined by Bahati in Kalalani, Tanzania, and cut by Beth Stier in Michigan.
This ring is a size 8 and could be resized within a half size up or down. To custom order your own variation email us at studio@katejones.us
