As the Greek myth goes: Halcyone, daughter of Aeolus, threw herself into the sea upon being widowed, and out of pity, the gods changed the pair into halcyons, otherwise known as the kingfisher bird, and ceased the winds from blowing during their mating season.
The expression halcyon days is derived from this myth and has been used to denote a time of tranquility or prosperity....It describes the 14 days of calm weather at the winter solstice, when a mythical bird (said kingfisher) was said to breed in a nest floating on calm seas.
We'd like to think of the many occasions on which this ring might be given, whether to yourself, or another, and it seems to us there should be no better sentiment embedded in it, than to signal days of tranquility to come.
With princess cut stones flush set in a checkerboard pattern on the entirety of the band, it's a re-envisioned take on the traditional Eternity Band. The flush set nature adds functionality, removing any prongs or beads which could otherwise catch on fabrics. The geometry and square shape of the princess cuts removes it from the "dainty" tradition and makes a bolder, more graphic statement, while the slightly wider proportions of the band and the hidden inverted detail on the inside of the band give the ring a sense of considered refinement.
Stones measure 1.7mm x 1.7mm. Total carat weight is approximately 1-1.2ct (varying with ring size and specific stones). Width measures 3.5mm, and sits 2.5mm off of the finger (in other words, its depth).
