Carreau (French)- mn. tile, diamond, check
This idea came to me as I was working on inlay pieces one day and had a blank Pia No. 2 form sitting amongst a pile of partially cut stones. There was a small black and white checkerboard piece, made of onyx and mother of pearl. It was just big enough, if turned diagonally, to work. And I wanted, badly, to make something new. By combining two elements I had worked with over and over again- the Pia and the checkerboard- I was able to make the old new again.
