Verena~ of Latin origin meaning "true"
We designed this ring so that we could combine our love of form, and the sculptural qualities of so many of our pieces, with functionality and a setting designed specifically to let light into a sapphire.
The stone is a 3.01ct sapphire with the signature periwinkle blue that famously comes from Sri Lanka. Unlike most of the sapphires we use, it has been heat treated to create a more saturated color, but it was impossible to resist and the scale of it allows us to create a ring of substantial form, at a more affordable price. Like other sapphires the color changes with the light source, vacillating between violet and blue. Set in a brushed 18k Green gold which gets its cooler "green" hue by substituting the copper in the alloy for more silver and zinc. We've chosen it to pair with this sapphire because the two seem to bring out the best in each other.
This particular Verena setting is what we've come to call our "Full Verena". The concave interior detailing that was introduced in the original Verena has been filled out, providing a weightier feeling, and a nuanced form that was inspired by our Odell Rings. The scale of this stone (measuring 9.4mm x 6.8mm) further emphasizes the form. The band is 5.75mm at the widest point and tapers to 2.4mm at the back.
The setting is an open bezel, which provides durability and functionality with its low profile. It also allows light to pass through the open area in the setting. Optimal for stones with lower refractive indexes such as sapphires.
